6 signs that it's time to hire a life coach

Wondering whether or not a life coach can help you? Here are six of the biggest signs to look out for.

Let's be honest with each other. This whole life business can be pretty tough!

A life coach can help you with many things, including mindset, thought work, confidence, setting goals, creating an action plan for reaching them and plenty more.

But how do you know when you could actually benefit from hiring a life coach? Well, that's what we're going to cover off right here.

Here are six telling signs that you should hire a life coach. And, if any of them sound familiar, perhaps you should look into hiring one...

Sign #1: You're feeling lost in life with no clear direction

Feeling like you're in a bit of a rut? A life coach may just be the mentor you're looking for to help you get out of it. Sometimes it feels like we're just stumbling through life and don't have much control over what happens and it's just the 'luck of the draw', but life coaching looks at life much differently. You actually can create your own life by design, you just need to get clear on what you actually want in life first!

A life coach will help you to work out what that actually would look like. Then, they'll help you formulate a plan for getting there and help keep you on track when things get tough (because they will). But after your sessions you should leave feeling inspired, motivated and ready to take on the world with a clear sense of direction and purpose!

Sign #2: You want to develop positive habits, but struggle with motivation

It's hard to stay motivated. Even though we really want to do something, like run that marathon or lose 10kgs, there's always a little voice in our head telling us we can skip the gym today to relax and binge Netflix with a bag of chips instead. If that's you, a life coach could be the kick in the pants you need to form positive habits and keep them.

A life coach will help you set goals with a clear why behind them so they actually inspire you. They will help you to break your big scary goals down into little ones that will seem far less daunting and easier to achieve, they'll help you get control over your thoughts that try to take you off track, and they'll check in with you regularly to help keep you accountable and moving forward.

They will NEVER tell you off or make you feel bad for going off track. That's simply part of life. What they will do instead is always have your back. They will help you find the path again by reminding you of your goal and why you want to reach it, finding ways to pivot when necessary, and get you feeling inspired and motivated again!

Sign #3: You're feeling unhappy or unfulfilled in your career

Are you in a career that you thought you wanted (or perhaps were pushed into by someone else like your parents) and now you're waking up every day absolutely dreading going to work? A life coach can help you find your dream career by asking the right questions, helping you to dig deep into what will actually bring you happiness and fulfilment at work, and identifying options you perhaps didn't even know were possible.

A life coach will offer an objective perspective that will help you to think outside of the box. When working with clients on their careers, it's also very much about helping you to adopt a growth mindset and positive outlook that enables you to overcome limiting beliefs that could be holding you back in your career, and cultivating the confidence for going for what you want and stepping into your best self at work. Once you do, watch the whole situation change!

Sign #4: You often feel stressed or overwhelmed and need help managing emotions

Life can be stressful, but if you're often finding yourself in overwhelm it's time to get help so you can learn how to nip stress and other emotions in the bud and get control over them before they take control over you.

A life coach will help you to identify your triggers for stress and other emotions so that you can come up with coping mechanisms together and become more aware. This will enable you to be able to self-coach and manage your stress levels and emotions in a way that keeps you in the driving seat so you can take your power back.

Sign #5: You're an overthinker and want to get control over your thoughts

If you're an overthinker and you often think of all the ways a particular situation could go badly (usually none of which actually ever eventuate), then a life coach can help you get control over your pesky negative thoughts so they don't snowball, and instead learn to automatically think more neutral or positive thoughts that make you feel good.

Our thoughts directly impact how we feel, which is an issue if we’re constantly thinking negative thoughts and worrying about things that haven’t happened, as it can lead us down a very dark path.

Let's be clear that there is a big difference between toxic positivity and thinking thoughts that serve you, and we don't want to think fake positive thoughts, we only adopt thoughts that we actually believe.

A life coach can help you to become more aware of your thoughts and help you to select them more carefully and train your brain to worry less and be more optimistic.

Sign #6: You want to become more positive, confident and happier

Who doesn't want to be happier in life?

The key role of a life coach is to help you step into the best possible version of yourself. To empower you, inspire you and be your mentor in life. They'll help you to see your blind spots (always in a respectful way) and they'll never tell you what to do, they simply are trained to ask the right questions to help you dig deep into what you actually want in life and what's really holding you back.

A life coach is the kind of mentor you've always wanted in your life. They will help you grow personally, professionally and spiritually, to become a more positive, confident and happier version of yourself, and all you'll need is 3-6 months with one depending on what you want to achieve.

So there you have it - six signs that you could definitely benefit from hiring a life coach.
